Cemeteries

Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The ancient ministry of the Catholic cemetery reflects the Christian recognition of the sacredness of the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit on Earth. This ministry, as with all ministry, seeks the same objectives regardless of external influences. That is, to serve the people whom God has entrusted to our care.

Our staff members are committed professionals, ministering to the needs of each individual and family with:

Sensitivity – standing with those who mourn the loss of a loved one

Compassion – empathetically listening and responding to the needs of families during their time of uncertainty and loss

Dignity and Respect – honoring every family and their stories from the first encounter with our staff, well into perpetuity caring for each family grave and this sacred ground for years to come.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE A CATHOLIC CEMETERY?

“At the death of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters of Baptism and strengthened at the Eucharistic table, the Church intercedes on behalf of the deceased because of its confident belief that death is not the end, nor does it break the bonds forged in life. The Church also ministers to the sorrowing and consoles them in the funeral rites with the comforting Word of God and the Sacrament of the Eucharist.”
(Order of Christian Funerals, no. 4)

Rite of Committal, Burial or Interment

The Rite of Committal, the conclusion of the funeral rite, is the final act of the community of faith in caring for the body of its deceased member. It should normally be celebrated at the place of committal, that is, beside the open grave or place of interment. In committing the body to its resting place, the community expresses the hope that, with all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, the deceased awaits the glory of the resurrection. The Rite of Committal is an expression of the communion that exists between the Church on earth and the Church in heaven: the deceased passes with the farewell prayers of the community of believers into the welcoming company of those who need faith no longer, but see God face-to-face.

These consecrated grounds, with perpetual care, fulfill both a spiritual and a corporal work of mercy for loved ones.

Shouldn’t your final affirmation of faith be on consecrated ground?

Catholic burial And Cremation teachings

The Catholic Church teaches the importance of a Respectful Christian burial for the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, here on Earth.  This includes cremated remains, which is the body in a different form.  The prayerful, peaceful atmosphere of the consecrated grounds of Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery reflect respect for those laid to rest here and for their loved ones who remember them.
