Mental Wellness and Project Rachel Clergy Training

Mental Wellness Ministry Training (Morning)

The morning will be led by Deacon Ed Shoener, President of the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers, on the importance of having mental wellness ministry in your parish. He is co-author (with Bishop John Dolan of Phoenix, AZ) of Responding to Suicide: A Pastoral Handbook for Catholic Leaders. Deacon Ed will lead a presentation on:

  • Why mental health ministry is so needed in our parishes today
  • The difference between Mental Health Ministry and Mental Health Treatment
  • What mental health ministry looks like in a parish
  • How you can offer hope and healing to your parishioners in need
  • Supporting families who have lost loved ones to suicide

Project Rachel Clergy Training (Afternoon)

Led by our very own Fr. Jeff Kemper (long time PR priest here in Cincinnati), Fr. John Paul Walker, O.P., (20 years experience with PR in other dioceses), as well as our Project Rachel team. You will:

  • Hear powerful stories from post-abortive women
  • Learn how to talk to a post-abortive woman in confession and spiritual counseling
  • Receive tips on talking about abortion in a homily
  • Discuss what kind of memorial services you can offer for the family of an unbaptized child (miscarriage or abortion)
  • How to make the parish more aware of PR Ministry
  • Have the opportunity to consider being one of our official Project Rachel priests here in Cincinnati
