SUMMARY:Collective Student Efficacy
DESCRIPTION:Harness the power of collective efficacy to accelerate students’ learning.  Do your students understand the potential of collaborating with others?  Do they believe that they will learn more if they develop both “I” skills and “We” skills?  Collective student efficacy requires more than pushing tables together and inviting students to talk or ‘work in groups’. Learn the essentials of task design\, skill development\, assessment\, and shared definitions of success. \nSuccess Criteria for participants\n• Identify the vital components and evidence-based success criteria necessary for students’ collective efficacy\n• Describe the “I” and “We” skills that need to be developed to ensure students have the skills and confidence to contribute to group success\n• Explain the nature of learning design\, lesson planning\, and classroom structures that ensure opportunities for all students to engage in collective efficacy \nRegister

SUMMARY:Engaging Readers with Nonfiction Texts
DESCRIPTION:Students often choose fiction books when given the choice of reading\nmaterials. They often see nonfiction reading as reading that is done for school\ninstead of for personal enjoyment. We can help students find books that\nthey want to read “for fun” if we think differently about the books we have\navailable\, the ways we use nonfiction in our teaching\, and how we book talk\nnonfiction books. \n  \nRegister

SUMMARY:Behavior Solutions: A Practical Roadmap for SEL Success in All Tiers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:If we have learned anything through teaching during this pandemic\, it is that the term “behavior” doesn’t simply refer to a disruptive student. The term behavior refers to academic behaviors (skill-based) and social behaviors (will-based) and both need to be taught and reinforced in every tier of systematic SEL supports at your school. \nFostering positive behavior and SEL by utilizing the PLC at Work® and RTI at Work™ processes will boost your school’s positive school culture\, increase attendance\, improve behavior\, prepare students for life\, and address inequities in school discipline. This workshop is designed to create a practical roadmap for meeting the needs of the whole child. \n\nIdentify their school’s current reality in each tier.\nCreate a roadmap for successful schoolwide implementation.\nAcquire strategies to avoid implementation barriers.\nDiscover how to function as a PLC with the focus on behavior and assign RTI in each tier.\nStudy each tier of behavioral support—prevention\, intervention\, and remediation—and understand how to construct successful behavior intervention processes at each tier.\nRecognize the roles and responsibilities for the leadership team\, intervention team\, and teacher teams during SEL implementation.\nGain evidence-based solutions to address complex challenges such as engagement\, motivation\, and attendance.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Teams: The Engine That Drives a Professional Learning Community at Work
DESCRIPTION:It’s important to remember that your goal isn’t to become a professional learning community. The goal is to improve the professional practice of every adult and every team in your school\, and by doing so\, the school will improve student learning—kid by kid\, skill by skill. Janel Keating leads the work of high-performing PLC at Work® teams. This two-day virtual workshop will highlight what leaders and teams do to improve their professional practice\, in an effort to help more students learn at higher levels. \nUsing videos of elementary and secondary teams doing the work\, Janel will share practical tools coupled with specific leadership practices that will positively impact both student and adult learning. She will provide critical next steps for participants to take back to their schools and districts to effectively do the right work at the right time in the right way for the right reasons. You will be motivated and inspired to ask\, “Why not us? Why not now?” \nPreferred audience: school leadership teams\, including principals\, teachers\, coaches\, curriculum and assessment coordinators\, and district administrators. \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the importance of establishing the “why” before the what and how.\nUnderstand how to take collective responsibility for student learning\, rather than working in isolation.\nIdentify structures that organize and guide the work of a team to include time\, team structure to include singletons\, norms accountability protocols\, SMART goals\, and planning tools.\nUnderstand the work and the team products layered under the four critical questions of a PLC.\nDiscover how to implement a guaranteed and viable curriculum\, unit by unit.\nExplore ways to monitor student learning through an ongoing assessment process that includes frequent\, team-developed common formative assessments.\nEngage in analyzing common formative assessment data and student work.\nUse the results of common assessments to:\n\nImprove individual practice\nBuild the team’s capacity to achieve its goals\nIntervene on behalf of students in an effort to enrich their learning\n\n\nEstablish what to be tight on/insist and require\, and what to be loose on team autonomy.\n\n  \nRegister
