This virtual workshop is designed for school teams who have started RTI but are still refining processes or experiencing challenges. The presenter has worked with hundreds of schools throughout North America and can help your school make RTI efficient\, effective\, and equitable. RTI work must be divided between collaborative teacher teams and two schoolwide teams (a leadership team and an intervention team). Together\, the entire school assumes responsibility for the learning of every student. \nAs an active virtual participant\, you will learn why bureaucratic\, paperwork-heavy\, compliance-oriented\, test-score-driven approaches fail\, and then discover how to create an RTI model that works. DESCRIPTION:This specialized learning session in gifted education meets the following competencies outlined by The Ohio Department of Education: \n\nProvide an extension or replacement of the general education curricula\, to modify the learning process through strategies such as curriculum compacting\, and to select alternative assignments and projects based on individual student needs\nUnderstand the social and emotional needs of students who are gifted and to address the impact of those needs on student learning.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Session Information:\n\nTwice-exceptional (2e) learners have often been misunderstood\, disciplined\, unchallenged\, and left behind. They’re called lazy and unmotivated. But they’re not: a diagnosis such as a learning disability\, ADHD\, autism spectrum disorder\, or anxiety masks their giftedness. Or their giftedness blocks educators from seeing their struggles. \nOften\, educators don’t have the tools to meet their needs. Emily Kirchner-Morris\, in her book Teaching Twice-Exceptional Learners in Today’s Classroom helps bridge that gap. SUMMARY:Christmas for the Preborn
DESCRIPTION:Christmas for the Preborn\, a one-hour ceremony of song and prayer\, fellowship\, hot apple cider\, and cookies\, which commemorates the lives of preborn babies lost through elective abortion\, is held each year\, during the Advent season in front of the Women’s Med Center abortion mill at 1401 East Stroop Road in Kettering. \nPlan to attend on Wednesday\, Dec. 15th\, 11 am – Noon\nDuring the hour-long event\, highlighted by young people reading the Christmas story from the Book of Luke\, we mourn the loss of the brief lives of those who were aborted during the year and we honor them – and reflect on our loss\, because they would have touched us and others in their own special way. And in the sad almost half-century of legalized abortion\, we’re already missing generations of babies that would have been born to those who were lost through elective abortion. \nIn addition\, we celebrate life with gifts\, which are distributed to local women’s resource and support centers. Each year we ask people to donate disposable diapers – sizes 4\, 5 and 6 – and baby wipes as gifts. We estimate that local support centers distribute over 100\,000 diapers a year\, and demand keeps growing. These centers do a marvelous job for women in crisis situations and provide a variety of services\, including free pregnancy tests\, counseling\, maternity and baby clothing\, post-abortion support\, ultrasounds\, support classes\, parent training\, referrals for community resources\, and medical and social services. They rely on private donations and deserve all the support we can give them.

The course focuses on the phonology\, orthography and structure of the English language; takes a comprehensive look at how students learn to read and write; and helps teachers to recognize the characteristics of learning disabilities. \nWhat makes Hamilton County ESC’s program unique is the practicum: each participant is assigned to a Master Teacher who provides one-to-one coaching and feedback on the creation and teaching of 16 lesson plans custom-tailored for the student the participant is tutoring during the course. Master Teachers will make 12 visits to the participants schools to observe their instruction\, enabling instructors to give specific feedback at point of need on both planning and implementation of OG methodology. The maximum instructor/participant ratio in any cohort is 8:1. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. \n\nAbout the Presenter \nDr. Michael Heithaus is Dean of the College of Arts\, Sciences & Education and a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences\, Florida International University in Miami\, FL. Dr. Heithaus joined the FIU Biology Department in 2003 and has served as Director of the Marine Sciences Program and Executive Director of the School of Environment\, Arts\, and Society\, which brings together the natural and social sciences and humanities to develop solutions to today’s environmental challenges. His research focuses on predator-prey interactions and the ecological importance of large marine species. Dr. Heithaus is author of HMH Into Science® and is a STEM consultant of HMH Algebra 1\, Geometry\, and Algebra 2. He received his B.A. in biology from Oberlin College and his Ph.D. in biological sciences from Simon Fraser University. \n\nAbout the Moderator \nWhitney Yaple is the director of product marketing for K-12 science at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and has over seven years of experience in the educational publishing industry.
