SUMMARY:Boosting Vocabulary for English Learners
DESCRIPTION:Explicit vocabulary instruction is a proven strategy to help English Learners close the vocabulary gap and increase their reading and listening comprehension. A systematic approach to vocabulary instruction by both English Language teachers and content-area teachers will ensure that English learners will be able to more quickly access the curriculum. Join this online session to learn ways to make vocabulary instruction effective and fun.  Intended audience includes EL teachers and general education teachers. The session is free for ESCCO Title III Consortium members\, $50 for districts who are members of the ESCCO and $65 for others. DESCRIPTION:Proven techniques to close learning gaps\nRTI is not a series of implementation steps to cross off on a list\, but a way of thinking about how educators can ensure each child receives the time and support needed to achieve success. This virtual workshop is designed for school teams who have started RTI but are still refining processes or experiencing challenges. The presenter has worked with hundreds of schools throughout North America and can help your school make RTI efficient\, effective\, and equitable. RTI work must be divided between collaborative teacher teams and two schoolwide teams (a leadership team and an intervention team). Together\, the entire school assumes responsibility for the learning of every student. \nAs an active virtual participant\, you will learn why bureaucratic\, paperwork-heavy\, compliance-oriented\, test-score-driven approaches fail\, and then discover how to create an RTI model that works. DESCRIPTION:This specialized learning session in gifted education meets the following competencies outlined by The Ohio Department of Education: \n\nProvide an extension or replacement of the general education curricula\, to modify the learning process through strategies such as curriculum compacting\, and to select alternative assignments and projects based on individual student needs\nUnderstand the social and emotional needs of students who are gifted and to address the impact of those needs on student learning.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Session Information:\n\nTwice-exceptional (2e) learners have often been misunderstood\, disciplined\, unchallenged\, and left behind. They’re called lazy and unmotivated. But they’re not: a diagnosis such as a learning disability\, ADHD\, autism spectrum disorder\, or anxiety masks their giftedness. Or their giftedness blocks educators from seeing their struggles. \nOften\, educators don’t have the tools to meet their needs. Emily Kirchner-Morris\, in her book Teaching Twice-Exceptional Learners in Today’s Classroom helps bridge that gap. In this self-paced book study participants will explore real life stories and examples to better understand and/or implement: \n• How giftedness and disability intersect \n• Strategies for supporting the specific needs of 2E learners \n• Interventions based on the various labels or diagnoses 2Elearners may have \n• The strengths and struggles that come with each exceptionality \n• Information that will help determine the appropriate services\, accommodations\, modifications\, and collaborations with other educational professionals through Section 504 plans or IEPs
