VIRTUS - REsources
What are the VIRTUS® programs?
VIRTUS is the brand name that identifies best practices programs designed to help prevent wrongdoing and promote “rightdoing” within religious organizations. The VIRTUS programs empower organizations and people to better control risk and improve the lives of all those who interact with the Church.
Protecting God’s Children® for Adults is training conducted by VIRTUS certified facilitators on the prevention of child sexual abuse. The training makes participants aware of the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent child sexual abuse. Two videos are the centerpiece of the training: A Time to Protect God’s Children™ and A Plan to Protect God’s Children™. The facilitators incorporate policies and procedures into the training defining child sexual abuse, addressing the reporting of child sexual abuse, the screening and selection of employees and volunteers, and victim advocacy.

All trainings sessions for the Decree on Child Protection will be conducted using the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children awareness training program. Training will be conducted in a live 3-hour session by Archdiocese of Cincinnati trained facilitators. Every person in a position which requires contact or interaction with youth or vulnerable adults must complete the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children awareness training session before they are permitted to work or volunteer within any of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati parishes, schools, or institutions. No one under the age of 18 is permitted to attend the training session and pre-registration for the training sessions is required. No walk-ins are permitted. Click here to register for or view the Live Training schedule.
In addition to attending the live training, employees and volunteers must stay current in reading their monthly VIRTUS bulletins on Child Protection in order to remain in compliance with the requirements of the Decree on Child Protection. Non-compliance will result in VIRTUS account inactivation and non-compliant employees and volunteers will no longer be permitted to work with youth or vulnerable adults until compliance is reestablished. Please contact your local safe environment coordinator with questions regarding your VIRTUS account or if your account is inactivated due to non-compliance with the decree.
