June 1 Year of Mission Celebration

On June 1^st, 2025, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. This date we are also asking parishes to celebrate the Eucharistic Year of Mission. The Year of Mission began at the conclusion of the Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis last summer and it ends at Pentecost this year. One of the initiatives of the Year of Mission is a Mass of Celebration taking place on June 1, 2025 at 10am at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains.

We are also inviting each Family of Parishes in the archdiocese to partake in this celebration.  There are music recommendations, suggested intentions for the Universal Prayer, and homily suggestions.

Why are we celebrating the Year of Mission on Ascension Sunday? Ascension Sunday is when Christ ascends body and soul into heaven, ending His ministry on Earth and beginning His reign in Heaven. That doesn’t mean his work is finished though. It is through us and by Christ’s strength that the mission lives on and continues through our works. So while the Year of Mission will be ending, the work is ongoing.

We would like to encourage each parish to recognize the individuals and groups in their parish who carry on Christ’s work through their acts of service in what ever fashion you see fit.
