Catholic Social Responsibility in Catholic Schools

June 1, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for an exploratory workshop for teachers and school leaders on Catholic Social Responsibility. This virtual session will be based on the Catholic Social Responsibility Guidebook developed by a team of educators in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 2021. The Guidebook, grounded in Catholic Social Teachings, Scripture, official Church documents, and the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools, serves as a positive, non-ideological, and foundational framework for elementary and secondary Catholic school educators engaged in the important work of forming students to integrate faith, culture, and life.

Outcomes:

  • Participants will become familiar with five Guiding Principles that serve as the foundation for educators as they form students to respond to contemporary social issues from a Catholic perspective in all areas of their lives.
  • Participants will understand four main contemporary challenges–culture, racism, civic participation for the common good, and economics—in light of their relevance for Catholic schools today and Catholic theological responses to each of them.
  • Participants will reflect on practical ways to integrate Catholic Social Responsibility into all aspects of the instruction, programming, and life of their school communities.
