Effective Strategies for Content Teachers of ELs (using SIOP)
Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol
The Fall SIOP Training has been cancelled, due to low sign-ups. If you are still looking for guidance and instructional support on teaching English Language Learners, please consider attending a half-day session on resources and tools available for all AOC teachers. A resource Padlet has been created to provide in-the-moment assistance to teachers. Participants of the learning opportunity will review the resource Padlet and dive deeper into some specific resources to use in classrooms immediately following the learning.
The same session will be repeated in the morning and afternoon on October 3, common professional development day.

SIOP
The Mission
SIOP® aims to support teachers in embedding academic language development within their instruction, so that students can acquire and apply English in academic contexts, including discipline-specific vocabulary used in textbooks and lectures.
Research Based
The SIOP Model is a research-based and validated instructional model that has proven effective in addressing the academic needs of multilingual learners.
Best Practices
The SIOP® Model consists of instructional strategies that address eight aspects of lesson design and delivery: lesson preparation, building background, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, practice and application, lesson delivery, and review and assessment.
Targets
The eight SIOP® strategies and practices can support any student having trouble with academic vocabulary.
These cohorts are appropriate for any content teacher that works with EL Learners and would like to gain a better understanding of how to support the needs of students in the classroom.
