Read Aloud is no longer a time for children to settle down after recess and listen in
a passive manner. Instead, it is a time for the reading community to come together
and think together around a common book. During the course of the school year, a
class can experience 6-10 chapter books together while still allowing time for other
elements of literacy instruction. In this session, we’ll examine why it’s important
that these books be carefully chosen and what routines you can put in place for
students to grow as readers, knowing they each may access the common text in a
different way.
