These one-hour virtual sessions take a deep dive into a specific topic. Each session will include an introduction to the topic, some connected readings, time for conversation and questions. Participants will leave with some new thinking and some resources to expand their thinking following the session. Note: Sessions are provided at no cost for member districts. The opportunity for continued individual conversation/coaching is available for a fee. Purposeful Read Alouds in Middle Grades. Read Aloud is no longer a time for children to settle down after recess and listen in a passive manner. Instead, it is a time for the reading community to come together and think together around a common book. During the course of the school year, a class can experience 6-10 chapter books together while still allowing time for other elements of literacy instruction. It is important that these books be carefully chosen and that there are routines in place for students to grow as readers, knowing they each may access the common text in a different way.
