In a recent report from the Department of Education documenting the effects of COVID-19 on American students, it was noted that “nearly all students have experienced some challenges to their mental health and well-being during the pandemic.” School staff and students are dealing with higher levels of stress and entire districts are recognizing feelings of helplessness among students and teachers. Many educators are searching for innovative social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies that strengthen their classroom communities throughout the entire school year.

Ward Eames is the founder of The National Theatre for Children and Livestream Learning Studio, two organizations dedicated to educating K-12 students through arts-enhanced programming. Join this edWebinar to hear from Ward on how to engage students emotionally all year long, strengthening their core social and emotional competencies through innovative classroom programming.

This edWebinar will offer solutions that help educators:

  • Engage students through techniques that support SEL
  • Use storytelling in a variety of forms to enhance the learning experience
  • Strengthen their classroom communities through relationship-building lessons and activities

This edWebinar will be of interest to teachers, school and district leaders, counselors, and curriculum coordinators of the elementary grades. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

Ward EamesAbout the Presenters

Ward Eames founded The National Theatre for Children (NTC) in 1978 as a means of using live theatre to teach K-12 students decision making, self-management and social awareness. In addition to building NTC into the largest educational touring theatre company in the United States, Ward has dedicated himself to building social and emotional competence in educators, students and families through a variety of arts-enhanced delivery methods. He was the creator of KiDSNEWS, a monthly news and current events video and curriculum program for grades K-6. His nationally broadcast sketch comedy TV series, M@dAbout, taught personal responsibility and decision making through money management skills, health and wellness information and environmental stewardship to tweens and teens. Ward recently founded Livestream Learning Studio, a subscription service that provides SEL-focused, arts-enhanced education through live, interactive digital events, accessible in the classroom and at home for schools and students nationwide.

Frank MacielFrank Maciel is the creative director of Livestream Learning Studio, an educational livestream subscription service for upper elementary school students. He has worked with Ward Eames for over 20 years as a director, producer and curriculum writer for The National Theatre for Children, a staff writer for the educational TV series M@dAbout, and a writer and on-screen host for KiDSNEWS, an educational news and current events program. Prior to his work with Ward, Frank worked extensively with the Walt Disney Company in California, writing and directing stage productions for their theme parks and teaching students from all over the country through Disney Performing Arts, a program that focused on teaching creative, arts-related skills to students in grades K-12.
