Miriam Ortiz, Ph.D. is the owner and chief consultant of Beyond the Research where she provides education consulting, professional development, leadership and staff coaching, and advocacy for families to help implement what current research presents as evidence-based strategies in teaching and learning. Dr. Ortiz works closely with educators and researchers across the country to improve academic achievement of struggling students and students with disabilities. She has been Research Manager for multiple IES grants and is the current Executive Director for the Division for Learning Disabilities of the Council for Exceptional Children. She has taught courses and delivered professional development on the topics of the Science of Reading, Behavior Management and Intervention, Assessment, Program Evaluation, and Special Education. Her K12 classroom experience was as a middle-school classroom teacher for students with behavior disorders, however her research has been primarily with elementary-aged students. Dr. Ortiz has also been co-author on several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the topic of reading instruction for students with varying disabilities and assisted with the development and revision of several curricula. Dr. Ortiz is passionate about bridging research to practice in a way that is easily digestible and immediately actionable.
