Curriculum (9:00-11:30)

Leading Standards-Based Learning Through Priority Standards, Vertical Alignment, and Defining Proficiency

A guaranteed and viable curriculum begins with a shared understanding of what students are expected to know and be able to do at each grade level. In this session, principals will take a deeper dive into Question 1 of the Four Questions of Instructional Leadership by exploring how priority standards, vertical alignment, and clearly defined proficiency establish the foundation for high-quality Tier I instruction.

Participants will reflect on their school’s current implementation of standards-based practices, identify opportunities for growth, and explore practical leadership strategies for building a shared understanding of grade-level expectations across classrooms. Using the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Course of Study and its accompanying resources, principals will leave with actionable next steps for strengthening standards-based teaching and learning while ensuring every student is working toward mastery of the most essential grade-level standards.

Student Learning Data: Moving Beyond Scores to Student Success

Assessment results should do more than identify who is struggling—they should help educators understand why students are succeeding or struggling and determine the next instructional response. Participants will explore the purpose of universal screening, diagnostic, formative, summative, progress monitoring, standardized, and authentic assessments while learning how each contributes to an effective MTSS framework. Leaders will evaluate their current assessment system to ensure every assessment serves a clear purpose and supports instructional decision making.
