Job Description:

The Marriage Coordinator is responsible for developing and managing the marriage preparation process for the NW-7 Family of Parishes (St. Michael, Fort Loramie; Sacred Heart, McCartyville; Ss. Peter & Paul, Newport; Holy Angels, Sidney.) This means overseeing all aspects of the Sacrament of Marriage within the NW-7 Family of Parishes. The coordinator would be responsible for scheduling and meeting with engaged and mentor couples as part of the marriage preparation process. Communicate and meet with the priests on the progress of the marriage program with engaged couples. Overseeing that all documents and requirements are completed by the engaged couple and provided to the parish offices.  Composing correspondence to the parishes, groups, or individuals would be expected of the coordinator when needed. The coordinator would need to be flexible in their responsibilities to best serve the Family of Parishes and its priests. Help the Family of Parishes continue to improve and grow the Sacrament of Marriage.

Duties:

  • Organizes and manages the marriage preparation process for all weddings at parishes
    • Develop a system for the marriage prep process
      • Inquiry/Intake Form
      • Checklist for engaged couple/parish office
      • Information packet for engaged couple/mentor couple
      • Provides required forms/assigns inventory
      • Recruiting and assigns mentor couple (if applicable)
      • Works with staff at each parish to ensure they have all documents needed for the parish master files.
    • Schedule, meet and follow up with engaged and mentor couples
    • Works with the priests to discuss and review progress of engaged couples’ marriage preparation program.
    • Over time works to transfer the marriage preparation process to an automatic system using a software tool.
    • Compose correspondence to the parishes, groups, and individuals.

Qualifications:

  • Prayerful and possesses a love for the Catholic Faith.
  • Experience/qualifications in communication
  • Detail oriented.
  • Technologically proficient.
  • Skilled in grammar and English composition.
  • Able to hold confidence of priests and parishioners.

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry is responsible for all efforts in accompanying youth in grades 6-12 by creating an environment where youth may encounter Jesus and become missionary disciples. The coordinator will help youth grow in their knowledge of the Catholic faith and in developing healthy relationships with their peers and adult volunteers. This position seeks to give life to the mission of the Church of spreading the Good News of the Gospel and implementing the Pastor’s pastoral vision.

Job Responsibilities      

  • Build a vibrant and faith-based community of youth.
  • Create, organize, and host events for students to encounter Jesus and grow in relationship with their peers.
  • Create healthy relationships with students and families in the parish. This will include working with our parochial school, local Catholic high school, Religious Education families, and homeschool families.
  • Communicate youth ministry events, retreats, conferences, and other faith building opportunities to the parish, particularly to youth and families.
  • Recruit, equip, and accompany a Volunteer Core Team to aid in Youth Ministry activities and evangelization efforts.
  • Provide opportunities for students to go to diocesan/national Catholic activities. Be available for evening and overnight travel for these events and programs. (i.e., March for Life, Steubenville, etc.).

Candidate Expectations

Must complete and maintain compliance with Archdiocese of Cincinnati Safe Environment policies

Must complete a background check

Must participate in continuing education and formation of catechesis, theology, spirituality, and methodology. This can be accomplished through events such as:

  • Online platforms
  • Archdiocesan training
  • Personal retreats
  • National conferences/local conferences
  • One-on-one mentoring

Candidate will be connected with and collaborate with the ministers of the surrounding parishes, as well as utilizing opportunities offered by the Center for the New Evangelization for networking, fellowship, and training.

Education, Training and Experience

  • Experience in youth ministry and education in theology or youth ministry is preferred, but not required.
  • Must have spiritual maturity, defined as a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church who is faithful to the Magisterium, regularly receiving the sacraments, and seeking to live an integral Christian life.
  • Must have some experience with planning and organization and willing to be mentored as directed.
  • Must be able to work well with all ages and be capable of communicating effectively with the youth and families through various means. This includes collaborating with the Director of Religious Education, Pastor, and Parochial Vicars. Should be willing to take direction and input from the Director of Religious Education, Pastor, and others as directed.

Assists the Pastor and several staff members with secretarial and administrative functions.   • Prepares, submits, and distributes weekly bulletin and other newsletters as assigned.
  • The Secretary provides secretarial and clerical support for the parish office operations.

SUMMARY:

The Music Ministry Director gives leadership to the traditional worship services of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish by using the organ/piano to lift the congregation in music for the praise of God. Supervision: The Organist serves under the supervision of the Pastor.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Select and provide organ music at all traditional weekend Masses,
    • Select Feast Days at 8:00am, Holy Days 8:00am Mass and 1 evening Mass.
    • Play for weekend mass on Sunday at 10:00am, two Saturday evening masses a month at 5pm.
    • Christmas and Easter Masses may vary, typically would include Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning,
    • Easter Vigil and Easter morning. Holy Week would include mass on Holy Thursday and Good Friday’s Passion.
    • Accompany vocalists and instrumentalist as scheduled by the Choir Director
    • Select Holidays may have a saxophone, flute, violinist and / or trumpet players
  1. Select hymns appropriate in conjunction with the pastor which are reflective of the liturgical season and designated Scripture texts.
    • Work with the Choir Director and the Contemporary Choir on a quarterly basis to select music
    • Preparation for song selection meetings, Compare AIM, GIA and Living Liturgy books/planners, may also use websites to come up with new music
    • Make copies for the meeting of the song selection
  1. Funeral Masses
    • Coordinate with funeral choir director and choir
    • Meet with vocalist for funeral choir to practice
    • Coordinate/reserve the church for practice with parish secretary
  1. Coordinate with choir director for the Youth Choir
    • Practice is from Aug-May
    • Youth choir sings 2 times a month
    • Coordinate/reserve the church for practice with the parish secretary
    • Coordinate with the Choir Director, the Dayton Dragons audition to sing the National Anthem and submit the video
  1. Coordinate with the choir director for the Adult Choir
    • Practice is from Aug-May
    • Adult Choir typically sings at 10am mass
    • Coordinate/reserve the church for practice with the parish secretary
  1. Oversee cantor ministry
    • Cantors typically sing for 8:00am mass and one or two Saturdays a month
    • Schedule a practice with all cantors
    • Coordinate/reserve the church for practice with the parish secretary
  1. Arrange for a substitute for all absences.
  2. Choose and purchase organ music within the approved budgetary parameters.
  3. Work with the Pastor regarding any items that you feel need to be maintained such as tuning and maintenance of all musical instruments of the church outside of the existing scheduled maintenance
  4. Provide organ/piano music for weddings held at the church when the organ is the primary instrument used. Fees for these services are not provided by the church, but from couples and families based upon your set fee.
  5. Submit budget requests each fall as part of the budgetary process of the Pastoral Council and Finance Committee.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. The Organist shall rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music at the organ.
  2. An annual performance review will be done with the Pastor.
  3. Cooperate with all staff and musicians of the congregation so that music ministry is enhanced within the life of the church.
  4. The Organist shall seek professional relationships with other church musicians and keep abreast of developments in worship and liturgy through associations, continuing education, and professional church publications.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A minimum of an associates of Music degree/relevant experience and sufficient keyboard ability to sight read hymns, liturgy, and accompaniments.
  2. Knowledge of Catholic worship tradition and a theological understanding of the church sufficient to appropriately select music and texts for traditional worship.
  3. Experience as a “team player” in a church setting working with staff, musicians, and volunteers.
