The St. Thomas More Newman Center seeks a Campus Minister who will assume a full-time pastoral leadership role serving Catholic students attending The Ohio State University.  The Newman Center is an active campus ministry of the Diocese of Columbus, staffed by the Paulist Fathers.  The Campus Minister will serve on a team that is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive program of care, evangelization, spiritual growth, and service opportunities for students, and is responsible for recruiting, training, and equipping the development of student leaders working in the ministry.  The Campus Ministry team also is responsible for the RCIA program, Adult Confirmations, and adult religious education.  The Pastoral Associate for Campus Ministry is a member of several committees that ensures the mission of the Newman Center is carried out through strategic thinking and planning.

The ideal candidate will view their work as a ministry and model church teachings through their life and work.  Essential competencies for the position include effective team leadership skills, strategic thinking, strong organizational and administrative skills, strong communication and relational skills, personal integrity and maturity, and a professional presentation.  This position requires the flexibility to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate the needs of the student community and the Newman Center.

A Bachelor’s degree, professional experience and demonstrated effectiveness in a campus ministerial role with competence in personnel supervision is required.  A Master’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or background or experience in a related field is preferred.

The Director of Family Evangelization is responsible for all efforts to accompany families so that they encounter Jesus and become missionary disciples. The Director emphasizes the mission of the family to guard, reveal, and communicate love through initiatives that strengthen marriage and the family, also known as the Domestic Church.  This is a full time position with weekend and evening work that will report directly to the Pastor.

  • Create and implement a comprehensive approach to evangelization for families, taking into consideration the need for mentorship in participating in the mission of the Church
  • Articulate a clear vision/mission for family evangelization to parents, youth, staff, and parishioners, including oversight of youth ministry volunteers
  • Implement a family catechesis model for the family of parishes that equips parents to fulfill their role as the primary formators of their children in the ways of the Faith
  • Highly recommend staying connected to and collaborating with the family ministers of the surrounding parishes, as well as utilizing opportunities offered by the Center for the New Evangelization for networking, fellowship, and training
  • Strongly prefer a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, Theology, Religious Education, or related field, or commensurate ministry experience.
  • Must be able to pray in front of and with others, to lead and participate in spontaneous prayer
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people using the spoken word, both within one-on-one coaching/apprenticing situations and in large group settings. Given the large Latino population in the Family of Parishes, the ability to communicate with Latino volunteers is highly valued, though being bilingual is not strictly required.

Managerial experience is considered a plus.  Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, be detail oriented, have excellent organization skills and be able to multi-task while working in a busy environment.

Must be proficient with Google, Microsoft office products, and QuickBooks POS retail system.  Must have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for long periods of time.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is seeking a full-time Social Services Advocate.

Scope of Position:

The Social Services Advocate is the primary contact person for those requesting social services at the Neyer Outreach Center.  Engagement, assessment, eligibility determination, gathering documentation and service delivery are primary functions.  Engaging neighbors to develop a holistic plan that incorporates assistance from SVDP with resources available through other agencies or individuals in order to address their needs is another critical function.  The team member must be able to: 1) build relationships with neighbors in need, using a strengths-based approach to help them recognize and utilize their personal strengths and resources; 2) promote systemic change; and 3) adhere to SVDP’s policies and procedures to ensure program sustainability.  This team member must consistently model the mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.

 Job Responsibilities:

  1. Engage neighbors seeking assistance, either by walk in or appointment, to holistically assess overall situation, eligibility for assistance and provide appropriate SVDP assistance and referrals, as necessary
  2. Assess and respond, as necessary, to needs of neighbors presenting critical situations at any time during business hours
  3. Participate as a member of the SVDP Social Services team as well as positively interacting with volunteers and other SVDP staff
  4. Prepare case notes, develop and maintain files, and enter required neighbor related data accurately into our electronic case management system
  5. Participate in selection process used to identify requests for rent and utility assistance to receive funding
  6. Maintain awareness of primary community resources available to address needs presented by neighbors as well as the process for accessing them
  7. Assist Call Center with harvesting and returning calls to neighbors
  8. Lead/participate in special projects as required
  9. Typical hours are Monday – Friday 8-4:30, with occasional Saturday hours
  10. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

High school diploma required; college degree is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related fields preferred. Bilingual (Spanish speaking) abilities are a plus. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well orally and in writing; commitment to detail and documentation; project management skills; ability to work under pressure; and a comfort in engaging with people of different cultural and economic backgrounds in a faith-based setting are necessary.

Work Environment:  Office Environment – Adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.

 Physical Requirements:  Job duties can primarily be performed from a desk; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items up to 35 lbs; driving an automobile.
